Presidents message

I would like to thank all of you who took the time to vote, and specifically vote for me. I appreciate the confidence that many of you have expressed to me in person. I am extremely proud to be a member of this department and realize we have, and will continue to face many challenges, but we will face these together and know that we as your board will represent you in every aspect of these challenges.

I would also like to remind you that this is OUR department and WE can choose our future direction. We have an energetic board, which looks forward to improving any and all aspects of our working conditions. It is with this in mind that I ask all of us to participate in OUR department. If you have a question, comment or concern, please bring it to the attention of the board. You can do this through the union website, email, text or in direct conversation.

After the recent losses of two of our brothers, I would also like to remind everybody that we are a family, so when you might be asked to help out, whether it is assisting at a charity event, volunteering for a committee, or even working the dreaded MANDATE, remember by not returning your call you are not hurting anybody but your brother who now has to work in your place. I’m quite sure when you interviewed for this job you never said “ I’m only going to work ten days a month and that is all.” I guess in simple terms “Do the right thing.”

In the very near future, there will be the opportunity to vote on a change to the staffing S. O. P. I would urge all of you to look at it, discuss it, and of course vote on it. The staffing committee has put a lot of work into this to try to minimize the number of mandates.

Lastly, I would like to tell of you that while I take the office of President very seriously, I do not take it personally, so if you have a question, comment or concern about something the board or I am doing, or not doing, feel free to contact me in whatever manner is appropriate. Once again, thank you for your confidence and I will try very hard to live up to your expectations.

     Thanks for your confidence,

     Chris Woodcock
